Sarasota’s original Plant and Garden Festival returns but with more new festivities
[January 20, 2012, — Sarasota, Florida] Marie Selby Botanical Gardens presents the 37th Annual Plant and Garden Festival, February 25 and 26, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year will be even more exciting with something for everyone! A plant collector’s paradise, we will have exotic species of orchids, bromeliads, ferns, palms, flowering trees, native plants, herbs, tropical fruit plants, succulents, aquatics, and more available for purchase. Be the envy of your neighborhood by purchasing your own ‘Selby quality’ exotic plants or choose from over forty vendors with Florida’s best plant, art, and gardening related items for sale. Unusual garden accessories, yard art, and many unique offerings will appeal to the green thumb shopper.
New this year, Jenna Norwood, raw food guru and creator of the documentary film ”Supercharge Me,” will give a lecture/demonstration on the benefits of raw foods (see her website www.superchargeme.com). Also featured are gardening and Ikebana demonstrations and children’s potting activities. The Ikebana exhibition showcases over 30 diverse Japanese floral arrangements and demonstration of this ancient art. Enjoy a spectacular Kimono display and ‘Ginza’ salesroom in the Museum of Botany and the Arts. All festival visitors can participate in our Selby Gardens ‘interactive living botanical art creation.’ This living botanical art will feature the ever popular Tillandsias (air plants) in a new and exciting way. Take advantage of our free horticulture demonstrations and expert gardening advice from numerous Master Gardeners and, of course, enjoy a stroll through our tropical oasis. Our live concerts feature The Missing Links, also The Garbage Men Band, both on Saturday, February 25, and Project SRQ on Sunday, February 26 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Special reduced admission to the Gardens - two days only! Admission to the Plant and Garden Festival is $9.00 for adults; children 11 years old and under and members enter free; member guests are $5.00 for the number of guests your membership allows. Please note, on Saturday, February 25th only, members can enter the Gardens at 9:00 a.m. Purchase your tickets at the Welcome Center the day you choose to attend. All proceeds go towards our Mission.
