Selby Gardens Receives BOOST Grant from Community Foundation of Sarasota County

[January 13, 2011,  — Sarasota, Fla.]  Thanks to the BOOST Initiative Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will receive an important boost contributing towards future growth. The $8,500 BOOST (Building Organizations’ Operational Strength Today) grant will initiate a program to raise endowment funds through planned giving. The most common type of planned gift is a bequest, but donors may contribute life insurance and other financial products or create sophisticated plans that benefit a favored nonprofit while providing income to the donor during his/her lifetime.

BOOST grant funds will allow Selby staff to partner with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County utilizing Crescendo, a software program developed specifically for planned philanthropy.  According to Chief Development Officer Ann Logan, “Selby Gardens’ existence is the direct result of a bequest from Marie Selby. A planned giving program will raise endowment contributions, which would provide us with a reliable base of investment income. We’re excited to finally have these additional tools to raise funding to ensure Selby’s future and, at the same time, give people with a passion for the Gardens a way to leave a meaningful personal legacy.”
