We are proud to host MF Cardamone’s exhibit, Florida Fantastica inspired by the unique plants and cultural traditions found at Selby Gardens and within the state of Florida. The exhibit will be on display in Selby’s Museum of Botany & the Arts from January 10 – March 3.

Join Selby’s Director of Education, Jeannie Perales and Dr. Matthew McLendon, The Ringling Museum of Art’s Curator of Contemporary Art for a discussion about the artist as botanist on Tuesday, February 26 from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm, in the Great Room by the Bay. 

Matthew D. McLendon, received his MA and PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London.  While completing his doctoral thesis on the manifestos of the Italian Futurists, Dr. McLendon served as Interim Curator of Adult Learning at Tate Britain.  Currently, he is Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida under the aegis of Florida State University.  While at The Ringling he has overseen the permanent installation of Joseph’s Coat, the Skyspace by renowned artist James Turrell. He has also curated numerous exhibitions including Beyond Bling: Voices of Hip-Hop in Art, Zimoun: Sculpting Sound, and Sanford Biggers: Codex among others. Dr McLendon is on faculty at Florida State University where he teaches graduate seminars in contemporary art and museum practice and is adjunct faculty at New College of Florida, the State Honors College.
