Teen Volunteer Programs

Now recruiting teen volunteers for Selby Gardens Summer Explorers program.  Applications must be received prior to a mandatory orientation at 10:00am on Saturday, May 10, 2014!

Orientations and Information Sessions for Summer Volunteers  

Selby Gardens Explorers have opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, and more. Earn your Bright Futures hours while learning and growing!

Garden Volunteers—If you love being outdoors, you’ll enjoy this position! This is a great chance to broaden your knowledge of tropical plants and gardening techniques. There are also opportunities to work in the plant nursery. 

Kids Corner Volunteers and Children's Rainforest Garden Teen Volunteers—Kids Corner volunteers work in our children’s activity area. Help young visitors find books and puzzles, read stories, look through microscopes, and more! Must love children and nature to be successful in this position.

Walk & Talk Guides—Polish your presentation and people skills while sharing the beauty of the Gardens with visitors! Walk & Talk Guides perform half-hour mini-tours. This is a great opportunity to learn about the fascinating plants in which Selby specializes.

Research Assistant—If you’re interested in volunteering at a world-class scientific organization keeps, this is the place for you! Volunteers will assist with a variety of projects in research and conservation (and rub shoulders with some fascinating people!)

Ask Me Cart Guide—Share your knowledge and love of the living world with visitors to this world-class institution! You’ll learn about the role plants play in the living world, strengthen your presentation skills, and work in beautiful surroundings.

Camp Counselor- Camp runs June 9 - 27. Camp counselors will be engaged for 4 weeks for preparation and break down: June 5 - July 1.  Shift is 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.  Counselors should have camp experience, enjoy children, be self-directed and enjoy nature to be successful in this position.

Other opportunities include office data entry, museum docent position, assisting at special events and light administrative work such as typing, filing, and phone calls.

Volunteer benefits include free admission to Selby Gardens; discounts on membership, on community classes and in the shops; and more!  The Gardens is happy to sign paperwork to document your community service hours. Positions are available during the school year, too!
