FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Sarasota FL, October 6, 2009):  Sarasota architect Michael Carlson, whose firm designed the HGTV Green Home 2009, will offer behind-the-scenes insights into his involvement with the project at the October 19, 2009, meeting of the Marie Selby Gardens Associates. Gardens visitors are welcome to attend the meeting, which takes place in the Great Room by the Bay at 11:30 a.m., for a $5.00 fee.

The fully furnished, 2,400 square-foot LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum-certified home, located in Port St. Lucie, FL, is only one of four LEED Platinum Homes in all of Florida. From the outset, designers, energy experts, and construction specialists worked together to develop a comprehensive approach to the project. The innovative team resolved some unusual design challenges through a series of charrettes, design coordination meetings and whole systems thinking. The premier of the HGTV broadcast showcasing the home first aired on April 19, 2009.  The show producers were determined to demonstrate that being green doesn’t have to be “extreme.”

HGTV held a drawing over the summer to give away the fully furnished, 2,400 square-foot LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum-certified home, which is located in Port St. Lucie, FL. Kari Coffey of Saginaw, MI, and her family won the drawing.

The Associates support Selby Gardens through volunteerism, special events and ambassadorship. For information contact Sharon Giles at (941) 355-8071 or email tdgpud8@msn.com or Pat Knasiak, (941) 492-5125 or rknasiak@comcast.net.
